    Dockable panes

Dockable panes allow you to customize the order in which the panes are organized.

    Changing panes order and layout

Moving a dockable pane is a delicate and intricate operation allowing you to make layout most comfortable for your personal needs and preferences. To move a dockable pane, left-click and hold mouse cursor on the pane name. Drag the mouse cursor to the border of the tool or dialog window to which you want to “dock” the pane. As you will move the cursor to the window, the program will show you where it will put the pane you are dragging if you release the mouse button at the moment. When you think that the presumed result will make you happy, release the button and enjoy the new layout.

In Anacta Time, you can also place dockable panes together as a set of tabs.

Example: moving “Project properties” pane from left to right border

    Result:

Show / Hide / Floating panes

Use context menu in the pane heading to change its behavior:

    Hide

    Completely hides the pane.

To show it again, go to “View” menu of the application and choose the name of the pane there.

    Floating

Separate the dockable pane from the main pane. Now you can move it to any place in the window.

    Auto hide

The pane hides when you do not use it but there is a shortcut near the border of the main window which allows you to show this pane by moving mouse cursor on it (you do not need to click).

    Customizing tables

To customize column widths, move the cursor to column border until it switches into column formatting mode (). Click the left mouse button and drag the cursor to change column width.

To change column order in the table, drag and drop column headings:

Some tables allow to add and remove columns from the table. To do this, use column picker icon in the top left corner of the table.

To sort records, click the heading of appropriate column – the records will get sorted buy this column in ascending order. To change the order to descending, click again the same column heading (the little triangle in the right corner of the heading will change its view together with the order of records in the table).

    Anacta Time

You can use Anacta Time as a stand-alone application or open it from Anacta Book to use it for automatic calculations and filling in labor input information about projects. In the latter case, “Pass Data” button appears in the bottom right corner of “Work Amount Calculator” pane which allows you to transfer work statistics to Anacta Book.

To open Anacta Time when you are in Anacta Book, go to “Project Properties” pane, choose “Work” tab and press “Anacta Time” button at the top of it.

The application window consists of the following panes:

    Main (“Calendar”):

Fixed pane used to select starting and finishing date of the project.

    “Work amount calculator”:

Dockable pane displaying results of work time calculations.

    “Calculator”:

Dockable pane allowing to make additional calculations without running a stand-alone calculator application.

See “Dockable panes” section for information on customizing pane layout

    “Notepad”:

Here you can add valuable thoughts and any other notes to the project.

See “Dockable panes” section for information on customizing pane layout.

    “Calendar” pane

The calendar can be displayed in one of the following modes (tabs):

    3 months
    6 months
    12 months

Use these modes to show 3, 6 or 12 months - depending on the size of your project and convenience. In these modes the dialog window cannot be resized and will use minimum space required to show the number of months you’ve chosen.

    Fit to window

This mode is the most flexible. Use it to choose the size of the window which fits you best, and the calendar will show as much months as can be fit in the size you’ve chosen (from 1 month to 2 years and more).

    Calendar selection and navigation

To select dates of the project start and finish, left-click the start date in the calendar, hold the left mouse button and drag the selection to the finish date.

To select 2 or more separate periods of time for one project, select the first period, then hold “Ctrl” key and choose 2nd and following periods in the same way.

To navigate the calendar back or forward, use arrows in the top left () and top right () corners or use keyboard arrows (↑, ↓, →, ←, PageUp, PageDn). You can also click on a month title and select the required month (as shown below):

    “Work amount calculator” pane

See also: “Dockable panes” section for information on customizing pane layout.

When you choose the project dates in the “Calendar” pane, the “Work amount calculator” pane instantly shows you appropriate work statistics.

When this pane is attached to the top or bottom border of the main pane, it has table view. When it is attached to the right or left side, the layout transforms to the card view and records are displayed vertically. This view mode is more convenient if you are not planning to keep numerous output results records. If you want to see more records in the card view, you can widen “Work amount calculator” pane by moving its inner border (this is done in the same way as you move column borders in a table). Or you can move through fields and records using “Tab” and arrow keys.

To add a new record, put the cursor to the next record (to the right or below the last saved record) and change any editable field (eg, the title).

To edit a record, choose it in the list (make sure that “Fix” box is not checked!) and select new time period or change numeric values.

To delete existing record, select the row (or column) that you would like to delete and click “Del” key.

See also: “Customizing tables” section for information on changing column widths, order and number.

    Description of fields:

    Field

    Type

    Editable

    Purpose

    Tips

    Fix

    checkbox

    editable

Can be used to lock the record, so that no changes in calendar selection will affect the values in this record.

Fixing records can be helpful when the user finished all calculations for some project or stage, but would like to continue calculation for other projects or stages and compare the results.

    Title

    text

    editable

Is used to describe the project, stage or task for which work amount is calculated in the current record.

In the card view (when the works amount calculator is attached to the right or left border) there is not enough space for long descriptions, so it is recommended to use abbreviations to identify the record.

    Calendar Days

    numeric

    non editable

Number of calendar days currently selected in the calendar control.

The calculator automatically refreshes this field after any change in the calendar selection. This value is not used in the default work amount formula, but can be used in custom formulas. See descriptions of custom fields for getting more information.

    Work Days

    numeric

    non editable

Number of currently selected working days.

This field is calculated automatically taking into account selected calendar days and the active holidays profile parameters. This number is the basis for all work amount calculations.

    Hours per Day

    numeric

    editable

Number of work hours per working day.

    Default value is eight.

    Workers

    numeric

    editable

Number of team members of the project, stage or task for which the work amount is calculated

Default value is one. You can insert a formula here accounting the number of workers from other values. To insert/change this formula, click the sigma icon (S) in the header of this column. This can be used to account an average number of workers in projects with unstable cast, as well as for future planning.

Be sure not to create a Formula Circularity. This error will appear if you use Work amount in Workers formula and Workers in Work amount formula simultaneously.

    Coefficient

    numeric

    editable

This is a part of the work amount formula and can be used for any reasons. For

Eg, occupation coefficient for the current task might be 0,5 (when the team dedicates to the project only half of its time), so the final work amount should be twice less. Default value is one.

    Work Amount

    numeric

    non editable

The main result value calculated by the formula.

By default, work amount is calculated by the following formula:

    [WorkDays] *  [WorkHoursPerDay] *  [Workers] *  [Coefficient].

To change this formula, click the sigma icon (S) in the header of this column.

If you want to place a fixed number to this field (without calculating it with any formula), you can just insert this number into formula builder.

    Custom1,

    Custom2

    numeric

    editable

Additional fields which can be used to make more accurate and complex formula in the “Work amount” field.

My Anacta started to behave strangely: there are some messages about missing files and some buttons do not work properly

If you encounter any strange or unexpected behavior, you probably need to repair Anacta Tools installation. To do this, run setup.exe.

    How to restore hidden pane?

Press the name of the pane you want to show in “View” menu item.

How to restore hidden “Holidays profile properties” pane?

Press “Edit” button or double-click the entry you want to edit. You can also close “Holidays management” dialog and then open it again.

How to place 2 panes vertically one above another (as “Work Amount Calculator” and “Calculator” in default layout of Anacta Time)?

Be attentive in observing how the pane behaves when you dock to this or that border. To place dockable pane “A” below dockable pane “B” you just need to drag “A” to the bottom border of “B”. That will be a little above of the place where “A” will try to dock to the bottom border of the whole application window.

    Anacta Time

How to select several calendar periods? Eg, January and March 2008.

Press and hold “Ctrl” key while you’re selecting several time periods.

How to delete existing records in the “Work Amount Calculator” pane?

If you’re in card view mode (default) click on column header and press “Del” key. If you are in a table view mode (i.e. the pane is docked to the bottom or to the top of the application window), click on the left corner of the record and press “Del” key.

I played with dockable panes and set the layout into a complete chaos. How to restore previous or default pane positions after they were changed?

To restore previous pane position use “Settings->Options” dialog, uncheck “Automatically save layout settings” and restart the application.

To restore default pane positions use “Settings->Options” dialog, press “Reset layout settings” button and restart the application.
